Questions people ask before they pay
The short version: a phone counts when it is online that month, AI is yours, old screenshots are deleted on schedule, and what the phone does is your call.
What counts as a phone?
A phone paired to one of your computers that was online at any point in the billing month. Hidden phones and phones that never came online that month are free. Swap phones as you like: we count concurrently paired phones, not serial numbers.
Do I pay for AI?
No. Ask AI steps run on your own Anthropic key (Settings, AI) or your own Claude login on the agent's computer. You pay your provider directly; Tether adds nothing and sets a hard budget per flow so a loop cannot surprise you.
What is kept, and for how long?
Every step keeps a screenshot, the text on screen and the app and time. Team also keeps a recording of each run. When a plan's history window passes, screenshots and recordings are deleted; sheets and the text of each step stay as long as your organisation exists, and you can export at any time.
Who is responsible for what the phone does?
You are. Tether drives phones and accounts you own and keeps a record of every step so you can see what ran. It does not spoof device identity, fake location or warm up accounts. Some apps' terms restrict automated use; read them before you put a flow on a schedule.
What does “local only” mean on Free?
The relay that carries live video runs on your own computer, the same three processes self-hosters run, so watching costs nothing and has no cap. On the hosted relay, Free includes 10 hours of watching a month to try things out.
What happens when I use up watch hours?
Live video drops to one-frame-per-second thumbnails until the month resets or you add hours ($5 for 50). Runs and schedules keep going; only live viewing is affected.
Which phones work?
Android phones today: turn on USB debugging and plug the phone into a computer running the Tether agent (macOS or Linux for now). Nothing is installed on the phone. iPhone support is coming, at lower frame rates.
